and Kenmore Bypass

Map

A link to the corridor that would be used for the bypass can be viewed here (PDF). If you need the Adobe Reader to view it, click here.

See the purple path marked below. The corridor starts just north of the Centenary Highway bridge in Kenmore and ends in North Tivoli. Will this road go through your neighbourhood?

Use the + button in the upper left to zoom in, or double-click any empty space on the map. Click and drag in the space to move your view around the map. Click the red pins to see what will be affected. Click the purple pins to see more information about the proposed arterial. Click the green pins and paths to see more information about better alternatives we propose.

View larger map with more features. Please contact us to add new pins and pictures to the map. Tell us the address and we will add your home, your favorite places, or ideas for alternatives.

Contrary to popular belief, this road reserve did not appear on the UBD Refidex for years and was only added to it again recently. See this page for more.

WBTNI

The Western Brisbane Transport Network Investigation site describes the proposed Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial (Stage One and Two). Stage One is the Kenmore Bypass.

Our action page describes good ways to make your voice heard to WBTNI.

Main Roads

The Queensland Department of Main Roads describes the corridor and road proposal here and the status of the planning study on this page and in their latest newsletter. They will be gathering feedback until 16 June 2008.

The Main Roads study, unlike the WBTNI, is currently focusing only on Stage One, which is commonly called the "Kenmore Bypass". However, we feel certain that once Stage One is built, the Stage Two project will be inevitable. Therefore we urge that anyone who opposes either Stage One or Stage Two to stop Stage One now.

Our action page describes good ways to make your voice heard to Main Roads.

Community Reference Groups

Main Roads is conduting Community Reference Groups to assess how to best built the Bypass to meet the needs and concerns of the community. Save Our Suburbs - Kenmore to Karalee is represented at one of the groups. You can see notes from these meetings here.

Political support

A driving proponent for the Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial is Bruce Flegg, Liberal member for Moggill. Dr. Flegg justifies his support by citing the results of a survey he conducted. By following this link you can see more about the survey and why we assert that it should not be regarded as legitimate public input.

Though Dr. Flegg is concentrating his efforts on Stage One, which devastates Kenmore, we believe that once Stage One is built, Stage Two will be inevitable, continuing the madness westward through many other suburbs.

Our effort unites those of us who vote Liberal, Labor, Green and many others. Though our party preferences may differ, we are united in our drive to assure that a better alternative is found, and we will vote accordingly.

The action page describes how to contact the Government to make your voice heard.

Environment

On this page you can learn about the environmental impacts of Kenmore Bypass and Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial. Did you know that the Moggill Creek Catchment is one of Queensland’s most biodiverse areas, and contains more bushland than any other catchment in Brisbane? (…and that the Kenmore Bypass will be built over the top of Moggill Creek?)

Sounds

On this page you can hear recordings made by our supporters which illustrate yet another impact of a new road: the noise of traffic that replaces the sounds of nature. You don't know what you've got till it's gone, as you can sing along!
