From the Courier-Mail:
AN underground rail system for Brisbane’s CBD is now being considered by the State Government following a year-long feasibility study into the project.
Transport Minister John Mickel’s spokesman this morning confirmed the subway option was a possibility.
The confirmation came after Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg announced he would consider public opinion about moving the inner-city rail network underground if elected.

When I first heard about this proposal, I thought - why focus on locations where there are existing train stations? What a waste of time, effort and money. Anyone else agree? Surely Springfield deserves a train station more than an underground stop at Milton…

I agree totally Sarah. But I guess in our SMART State there must be a reason why the government plans on spending billions in an area where there is already an existing rail service. This little brain a bit scrambled at the moment so I’d appreciate someone explaining the logic behind the inner city underground rail plans.

I read articles by Robert Dow in Westside News and he advised all trains lead through Central and Roma St etc and it is at capacity. He suggested opening the Exhibition stop all year round (apart from the Ekka) so that trains could loop around the city at least. After trying to visit the RBH by train I fully support Robert’s suggestion. I am not sure which plan Anna Bligh or Ronan Lee refer to but think there do need to be more rail links and more loops around the city and to our Universities. I would hope that WHEN the Uni of Qld develops a large campass on the Pinjarra Hills Vet farm land, that it connects to St Lucia with light rail. If they build the Kenmore Bypass on the transport corridor it will definitely be an opportunity lost for the Uni and the future students who always rely on public transport. Imagine how wonderful it would be to have a high speed, regular public transport service from Pinjarra Hills, through Kenmore, FTP, to Sherwood rail station, then even linking to St Lucia campass and via Indooroopilly to Toowong loop or the green bridge from Dutton Park train station for example… Can you tell I love rail transport? I know, I am daring to dream!
