There is an article in the Sydney Morning Herald which may be of interest:

Children who live near busy streets and highways have more respiratory problems and hay-fever allergies than children who live in more bucolic settings, according to findings of a group of German researchers.

The proposed KB will run so close to Kenmore South State School – has the Principal contacted or made a submission to Main Roads to vehemently oppose the bypass???

My concern is for the poor kids living on the corridor. These valleys in Kenmore and Fig Tree Pocket are like funnels for the pollution to waft along. There were so many babies (20) at the picnic rally a few weeks ago. They must live in the area. These research studies are scary. Thanks for sending out the article, it is good to read the facts.

As a parent of 2 children at Kenmore South State School I had hoped that the school would oppose the KB on health and safety issues. However unfortunately the P&C decided to remain neutral due to divided opinion, now I may stand corrected on this fact if I am wrong.
However given that Kenmore South has a great reputation with an environmental curriculm and was recently featured on the Today program you would be forgiven for thinking, why is the school not taking a strong stand against the KB?
My children have written to all the powers that be, to highlight the extreme inconsistences that we have occurring here in Kenmore with the KB. Firstly lets teach our children to value the environment and then right infront of them rip and bulldoze it out. This gorgeous place that they have grown up in and our community space that they are connected to. Our children look to us for inspiration for the future and I don’t want them to be confused on how to save the world. Just because we say one thing and do another, they need to know now more than ever that saving our environment is the absoulutely right thing to do.
My daughter made a wonderful sign her message is this

SAVE OUR KENMORE
SAVE OUR BRISBANE
SAVE OUR EARTH

The issue of the Kenmore Bypass is not just about what is going on in our suburb, it’s also about finding better solutions to transport in this city and making it in a way that is sustainable long after our generation is gone.
This is something that we all have to take a collective responsibility for and we all have the ability to tell the current government what we need rather then a select few do it for us.
Personally I couldn’t be prouder of my children they have written letters, been photographed in the courier mail, westside news, Local bulletin, danced and sang songs to save the environment on eletion day when did our first petition, videoed for you tube to show the impact of a potential KB,painted signs and Tshirts and interviews for TV.
If a humble domestic engineer and 2 kids can do this, then imagine what can be done by the many of you out there who probably have far better skills than us. Then it’s my challenge to you to get out there and keep the profile of the NO KB going until we have more suitable solutions for a sustainable future.

We should really remind our great leader of this Anthem, I am sure he has forgotten it after those old school days!!

Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history’s page let every stage
Advance Australia fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We’ll toil with hearts and hands,
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands,
For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia fair.

THIS IS SUPER FRUSTRATING!
