From the Courier-Mail:
THE State Government has resurrected a controversial Howard government plan to build a road bypass across the Brisbane River in the city’s west.
The so-called Goodna bypass was understood to have been mothballed when Labor won the federal election.
The Rudd Government instead opted for a billion-dollar upgrade of the treacherous Ipswich Motorway.
But now the state’s Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt has admitted in a letter that the Goodna bypass is back on the agenda.

People I have spoken to from Moggill have said they would rather the Goodna Bypass than the Moggill Pocket Arterial. Our group is formally opposed to the Moggill Pocket Arterial. If the Government is expanding the Ipswich Motorway why do we need either? The Govt owns the corridor for the Goodna Bypass and one of the four bridges could be built for local traffic to Wacol. If the Govt is still looking at these freeways they are admitting they are not looking at traffic demand reduction. This is not sensible nor sustainable. SAVE OUR SUBURBS - No Moggill Pocket Arterial and that includes the section of it called the Kenmore Bypass.

Interesting thing about the Goodna bypass is the intersection with Moggill road as shown and no interaction with the Moggill Pocket arterial. Two things come to mind (1). given this it could actually point to increased flow onto Moggill road, meaning major works on this road and (2). why would they build two major freeway intersections like this; are we to end up with a Moggill Road freeway and Moggill Pocket arterial freeway feeding traffic onto the Centenary freeway. Doesn’t sound right. What are they thinking? Sounds like a bet each way. It’s really hard to figure these guys out.

A little over a year ago, Flegg told us we should trust the Labor State Government when they said they would scrap the Goodna Bypass. Flegg told us a few months ago we should trust the Labor State Government when they said they wouldn’t extend the Kenmore Bypass to the Warrego Highway. We now know we can’t trust his judgement and we can’t trust the State Government. Anyone further out would be mad to still believe that the Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial will stop at Moggill Road and not go all the way to the Warrego!

Just to clarify one point.
From looking through the Goodna Bypass business case, there was never an intention for it to interact with Moggill Road (no on or off ramps), so it would link to Logan Motorway and
Ipswich Motorway - meaning freight traffic would continue to use Ipswich Motorway / Gateway bridge, or head south on Logan Motorway. Moggill Pocket Sub-arterial would see the Centenary Highway become a designated primary (rather than secondary or alternate) freight route.
Moggill Pocket Sub arterial would be bad for Centenary Highway commuters, bad for Milton Road/Coro Drive commuters. This Highway was only meant to be for commuter traffic, not a major freight route.

bring on the tunnel boring machines and build the brisbane underground

Thanks Grant
Funny thing, I looked at it again and the map on the main roads web-site shows interaction with Moggill road. Go figure.

I’m from Moggill, at this point in time the Goodna Bypass seems like a better option than the Moggill pocket sub-arterial stage 1 and stage 2 going through to the Warrego Highway.
The people I talk to in my area are DESPERATE to get the bridge from Moggill to Wacol and catch the train to town or Ipswich halving trip times. They come out here to live because it’s peaceful and then find the commute to the city is HORRENDUOS. Then they decide to sell, but can’t!! Having a bridge would increase accessibilty for many community services, it would help our community to flourish not wither.
Most people in my area realize that the Kenmore Bypass would only alleviate congestion for about 5 minutes and then they will find they are back to square 1 after spending at least 500 million dollars. I think think this is an obscene waste of money, irresponsible when we all know that our health system is in dire straits
The best solution is to build a local bridge from Moggill to Wacol and give all of us real solutions to our transport problems. It would be the best thing for our community it should have been built 40 years ago. A local community bridge would cost approx 80-120 million dollars and actually help solve congestion in the west.

Marx, with all the proposed above ground noise, pollution and destruction of parks left in our suburbs, I now want to live underground!
