The Brisbane Times published an article on the “Kenmore Bypass” (the Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial Stage One) which should fire you up. As we describe on our action page, this Stage One is the thin edge of the wedge, after which the entire devastating arterial can be more easily built. This does not mention the better, faster, less expensive alternatives presented to the Minister by our group.

Flegg’s assertion about the survey is deceptive, in my opinion. To quote: “Dr Flegg also said community surveys he conducted revealed 3000 families indicated Moggill Road was a serious problem and 94 per cent favoured a bypass at Kenmore.” I saw this “survey” and it does not deserve the air of neutrality it implies. The flyer heavily advocated the Bypass, then asked you to write in to describe your reasons for supporting it. Those who do not want this bypass would see no point in replying. If anyone still has a copy of the mailing, let me know and I will publish a scan of it.

So many people can see that this arterial road does not solve anything. There are so many less expensive alternatives that can help traffic congestion in the short and long term. It is obvious that traffic congestion should be solved at its source - where high density housing exists in the Bellbowrie area by offering an exit to the Wacol/ Sumner area. This would allow easy access to: rail, public and private primary and secondary schools, services such as police/ fire/ ambulance, and Ipswich, Centenary, and Logan Motorways. Many things can be done to improve congestion through the Kenmore Village area between OLR and the dreadful Kenmore roundabout. These improvements must be made in the short term to reduce the pressure on Moggill Road and its feeder roads.
