im not sure when the budget is released. i would hope it would be too expensive to build. although in recessions, i think the govt likes to "invest" in infrastructure projects to give ppl jobs.

its so frustrating to hear the govt talk about boosting public transport, reducing car dependancy etc - yet still plan to build freeways!

kenmore and beyond will suffer in the future, particularly with no rail and no busway. the preserved corridor would be better used for a public transfport corridor. not a toll road.

Thank you Matthew - do you have an idea when the budget priorities will published?
Do we have any chance to voice our opinion prior to this or is it just part of an ongrinding mechanism of government to which we have no imput?

Hi Mark. I'm the admin here and approve the comments so I saw your cry out. :) People don't check here as often as when the planning stage was done, but I'm sure things will heat up again when the budget priorities are published. Come on back once in a while, and especially when there is new Bypass news.

Two announcements seemlingly unconnected No1 a development in Logan equivalent to the size of Springfield
No 2 the abondament of the promise of Rudd to can the Goodna bypass.

No 2 is the reservation of the decision of the ex liberals i.e. Howard to build the Goodna Bypass

Now I hear on t.v. that the Rudd Govt has now back lipped on its promise to stop the Goodna Bypass

The Goodna Bypass has 2 bridges to cover the Brisbane City River

That proposal was protected by a covenent that there would be no exits or entrances onto that part of the Goodna Bypass that crossed the river

Now that covenents are being broken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What plans do they really have?????

Main Roads maintain they have a preserved corridor for a little bit of Kenmore i.e from Moggil Road to Centenary Highway.

However, they still have lines on the maps ubd referdex etc. that shows two lines continue from Moggil Road intersection with the "proposed" Kenmore Bypass out through Pullenvale and all the way out to the Warrigo Highway,

FLEGG opposes stage two of the Kenmore Bypass to the Warrigo Highway through his back yard -

Margaret de Wit is also is also in favour of the Kenmore Bypass
It probably will go past her property

The MRD has a Grand Plan for the whole of the whole of Brisbane

The Kenmore Bypass is just stage one of many stages that they will not disclose until it suits them to diminish the values of all adjoining properties along its grand plan.

The Grand Plan needs to be ivestigated under f.o.i to the full for the whole of Brisbane, Logan Ipswich etc. and give a projeced timetable of when these proposals will take place.

Highly concerned for you your neighbours and your investments.

i saw an interview with the mayor of ipswich on tv a few months back.

he said something like this: "Sydney has Parramatta, then the Blue Mountains, Brisbane will have Ipswich, then Toowoomba". I infer that he means he is encouraging urban sprawl all the way to Toowoomba?

NB these comments are just my recollections and are not from a transcript.

Why are politicians so obsessed with growth and development?

Happy New Year!!! - As I went to Ipswich via the Moggill Ferry yesterday (Saturday) seeing the catepillar tractors gobble up more earth to create more houses in this area I cannot see a grand plan from BCC who is allowing these developers to snatch and smash land to create more housing which will force the increased traffic to go through Kenmore onto Moggill Road. There are 3 levels of govt. local, state and federal and all are in this together - they need to spell out exactly what they mean and impart this information to the community. If you doubt what I am saying check out the Moggill Markets next fortnight and look at the infrastructure going on on the left -

IIRC this question has been asked in the past, and the answer has been that the river banks past UQ St Lucia are "too unstable" for a citycat stop.

i doubt any in-depth studies have been condutcted, and that this is just an excuse to keep investing in roads and freeways???

anyone else have any info?

as a new resident of Bellbowrie, I am wondering and I might be naive about the inticricies, why dont the citycat ferries travel up the river to Moggill? There are not many boats on the river, as I expected when first exploring the area. I once lived in Brooklyn, NSW on the Hawkesbury River. There were lots of boats there and also not too far from ferries. love to get some clarification on this.

Hear hear! How do we organize this? We want to stay here and do some reno, and want to get this over with. Will we get a bypass, so we reno the front and inside, or will there be no bypass and we reno the back porch? Really, let's get an answer. How can it be done?

I think its time all of us who are against the bypass should email the government and main roads and ask them to make a final decision so we who are all affected by the paypass can know what is going on get on with our lives instead of having this black cloud hanging over our heads. There are people who want to sell and others who want to stay so we all need to know if this project is going to happen or is it going to be cancelled completely forever (no putting it in the "to do " basket for another 35 years) I urge everyone to make their voices heard and I also think our notices regarding no kenmore bypass should be resurected in full and shown to all and sundry so people in this community can band together and fight this pathetic idea and make our feelings noticed - we have been too quiet for too long. Put up your signs and let those who are dictating our lives know we are over it - we want a decision one way or another. And it must be a final decison.

Things have been quite for a while. I urge everyone to pay attention to other development issues around you. For example, there is a plan afoot to turn the Karana Downs golf course into a housing estate. If this goes ahead, there will be still more pressure to build a new road. I have a little information on that on my web site, and there is an active community group chasing that issue (see e.g. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=126862953698). Even if you don't live in Karana Downs, you are entitled to object once the DA is up for public comment.

Hi.

I am a very big supporter of a traffic bridge from Bellbowrie to Riverhills. I had heard previously (before finding this website) that money had been placed aside by the developer for said bridge. My question is where is the money now and furthermore, where is the bridge? Does anyone know information / reponses from council / main roads etc?

Does anyone know information / reponses from council / main roads etc?

In response to the Kenmore Bypass Planning Study (KBPS), comments have been submitted to Department of Transport and Main Roads suggesting that:

(a) the KBPS appears inadequate as it has dealt only with local technical / environmental implications of a project that would have significant regional implications (eg the 'rat-running' through the Western suburbs that puts pressure on Moggill Road, and has led to the preservation of the Moggill Pocket Arterial route for which the Kenmore Bypass would seem to be intended to be the first stage);

(b) both the KBPS and the Moggill Pocket Arterial options are in at least one key respect, incompatible with the the new transport philosophy embodied in the recently completed Western Brisbane Transport Network Strategy, which has taken a forward-looking approach to the broader regional context (though some possible complementarities with the KBPS can be suggested);

(c) given current huge pressure for, and constraints on, government infrastructure spending, it is critical to ensure that money is not wasted on options that do not make long term sense (and this defect appears to apply to both the Kenmore Bypass and Moggill Pocket Arterial options).

The above comments are presented in more detail at:

I was shocked to find out today that Ric Nattrass had died recently, though I know of Ric only through his efforts for those of us against the Kenmore Bypass and his efforts to save native wildlife - particularly the koalas. So it felt strangely "fitting" however, that he died without fanfare - dying out of the public eye, just like his beloved koalas.
His support of communities like ours will be sorely missed. It is a mark of the man that we feel we knew him and now we miss him. I intend to continue Ric's fight to save our native wildlife and our beautiful communities. RIP Ric

The green light has been given for the northern bypass tunnel (in principle it seems anyway). This will give weight to the KB becoming a reality. Bligh is on the nose and we'll have Flegg and Co. chomping at the bit come next election. He may even become a Minister in a new state government and that alone is cause for great concern. The only way from here is to have an Independant stand against the major parties. The election is a long way out but someone has to stand up now and be prepared for the long haul. We have a waning Labor party who has gone quiet and not willing to land the final blow, whilst the sitting member has laid out his plans. This will need to be community effort to have the KB quashed. There is another 2-3 years to go.

I have just heard of the pass of Ric Nattrass. I am truely devastated by his passing.

What a man! I only had limited contact with him unfortunately.

He urged me to resign from the Community Reference Group as he said I was being used as a political pawn who would be ignored. Even after the derogatory comments made about him at the CRG, I stayed bacause some of you urged me to.

Only a fortnight ago Ric was thinking of our Koalas. Ringing Helen to advise her of a Koala run over on the Centenary Highway. Who will fight for them now?

He was someone who was prepared to speak the truth and take the criticism of unprofessional people in the environmental consulting world making a profit out of others misery - mainly Koalas. I was and remain angered by his treatment by Main Roads. At least he got to hear the Premier show more confidence in Ric's opinion than theirs.

What an enormous loss. I will keep fighting against the Kenmore Bypass - encouraged by his unwavering support.

Thanks Ric, you made your mark on this world and mine. Wish there were more like you - people with a spine and conviction. Only the good die young.

IF the corridor must be used, it would make sense that it be just light rail, or even a busway.

brisbane has several dedicated busways, but nothing of the sort in the western suburbs.

it is crazy to make the corridor another clogged up road - and lose a good opportunity to better public transport - which i think most of us want!

Recently the government has started using modern technology to identify 'hot-spots' in Brisbane - that is those places that need extra trees planted to enhance shade for residents. I couldn't watch that report on television without thinking fo the beautiful age old trees which line and grow in this gorgeous area which DMR want to rip out for more cars - talk about a farce. Sadly, as said by many before me - we have neither big party prepared to take a stance against this destruction and neither are they prepared to meet with us to discuss why we are so angry as a community. People power is the only way to tell them that this road will in NO way help the congestion on the Centenary Highway - oh sorry - motorway. However, we do vote, but who can we trust. I am one very disillusioned voter.

The problem Stavros, is that Main Roads is not interested in local solutions. Not for Kenmore, anyway. They couldn't give too hoots. This waste of money that will rip our suburbs to pieces is designed with the growth corridors in mind. They're keeping the Moggill area happy by saying that building the KB doesn't ensure the Warrego extension but once the KB is built...hello Warrego extension.

When that happens, I won't lift a finger to help them. We've got the MR engineer coming out tomorrow, I wonder how often this lackey can say that no decision has been made, no funding, blah blah blah.

Makes you wonder what's really going on around this city and state. With all the questioning of polititians ethics and cronyism on the increase, all over the news lately. There are vested interests for big business everwhere.

Liz you are correct every option over Gem rd is ridiculous but probably planned that way by MR. The government knows our Brisbane environment is big trouble and koalas are on the verge of extinction here and yet they ignore their own data on koalas.

Then we have dumb and dumber running the place it's very disheartening to think of what will actually happen to Brisbane in the next 20 years with all these crazy people at the helm.

I don't know what we can do to help them see sense that there are actually cheaper, better and quicker solutions to the Kenmore Bypass.

With the money spent so far on KB planning we could of had at a couple overpasses to keep traffic moving and separate our children from danger. What a waste.
