Please send hard copy of a map i can read. Please send by e.mail the guts of your plan B. Do you have an action plan. How can i help. Please phone (number removed by admin). I agree there must be a better way than destroying one of Brisbane’ss most beautiful suburbs
Alan Gosling
The proposal is a prime example of stupidity at its worst. This is no solution to an apparent inconvenience to users of Moggill Road, it simply builds another bottleneck entry to the Western Freeway at Fig Tree Pocket. Until an overall plan is produced for Western Brisbane, WBTNI is in the process of doing just that, ad hoc building of sections of road is a ridiculous waste of taxpayers money.
There are alternatives available and these need to be thoroughly canvassed prior to any further feasibility study being undertaken.
The lack of political representation for Kenmore at both State and Local Government level is disturbing.
Matthew
Great to get your comments, Alan and Jim! Every comment left on this site, even just to say “I agree!”, adds to our show of force.
Jim I will pass your phone number and request on to Penny so she can help send you a hard copy.
Keep it up everyone!

I was aware that this so-called traffic bypass was being proposed a few weeks ago and then I received the plans and information through the post.
I live in Musgave St, Fig Tree Pocket, and I thought well this does not affect me or the street physically or the loss of flora, fauna and relevant wild life…..as is going to be the case for those Kenmore residents– well it does affect me and my fellow residents! After hearing and reading various comments through the local forums and radio stations I would like to this opportunity to stand up and be counted.
Albeit the Centenary Freeway runs parallel to our street, I moved to the area August 07 and was aware there was talk of a freeway going through Kenmore starting at the bottom of our street this was through the Russ Hinze era, I was told it would never happen due to the fact pockets of communities that have formed there which I agreed to.
So 9 months later here we are listening and observing that this so called traffic alleviation problem to Moggill Rd is the answer, to run a road though your rear or front garden– I wonder if Dr. Flegg would have supported it or any of these so-called polys or Mains Road bureaucrats would agree to this if it was their back yard ….. mmmm…. NO!
As I pointed out prior, this freeway is supposed to start at the bottom of our road and does not affect me as bad as those in that particular corridor, but it would increase the noise levels, CO2 levels and again I wonder what the Government WHSO would think of just those issues alone.
I am willing to help in any way I can, I hope my comment helps, good luck Matthew.

It is great people are becoming more aware of the issue of the Kenmore Bypass and that it will end up as the Ipswich Motorway alternative. I will be writing “No Kenmore Bypass” to the Kenmore Bypass Study and sending a copy to Minister Pitt. I am just so glad people are seeing this for what it will be in the future and prepared to take our first opportunity EVER to say NO to it. Wake up the rest of you, do you really think they will spend all that money on a few houses west of Kenmore? If they wanted to fix traffic congestion and school safety they would have by now with one tenth of the money they will spend on the Kenmore Bypass. It will destroy western Brisbane forever.
Julie Hagans
Our family is totally opposed to the proposed kenmore bypass. We live on the ridge line directly above it, presently we can hear the constant hum and airbrakes of trucks on the Centenary Freeway, the noise echoes over 2 ridge lines. We don,t want the bypass because of the increase pollution and noise pollution it will be unbearable. I am concerned for our children as they attend Kenmore South State School where the proposed bypass will run approx 100 metres from the front gate. Not only will my children get pollution at home but all day at school. I am very worried about this possible scenario and the effect on all our health and wellbeing.

is anyone lobbying the Transport MInister to consider a rail link instead? surely in these days of environmental sustainability they can’t be serious about another road??
Tracey Johnstone
The Kenmore Bypass is outrageous and a joke at best. This will do nothing but destroy a beautiful suburb, and the flora and fauna within it. There are not to many suburbs left like ours, we should NOT let them destroy it. As mentioned in a comment I read above, there are alternatives. Why not build a tunnel?
We need to get behind this whole heartedly and stop this irreversible destruction of community and wildlife.
Tracey
Helen Duncan
Has an underground tunnel been suggested? This would result in minimal environmental impact yet provide the link to the freeway as requested.
Penny Behan
Helen and all,
I had a meeting with two very professional members of the Kenmore Bypass team, on Thursday 15/5/08. I was offered this meeting as I represent another community group. I believe they tried to give me full answers to my questions and was impressed by the Engineers frankness and obvious technical skills. The PR consultant was empathetic and tried to advise me of the process the study is taking so that we are represented on the CRG. Regarding a tunnel I was clearly advised it was too expensive and would only be considered for suburbs like Milton. None of the route would be considered as a tunnel due to expense. I will report more when I have time. Please note Helen, this doesn’t mean it is not an option, but it is one that the KBS is not considering due to cost.

What a great rally today - so many people all asking only one thing - that alternatives to the Kenmore Bypass be investigated. Is this too much to ask.
As I sat in the peaceful Sally Anne Atkinson Park, it was all I could do to try again that peaceful area becoming a highway with 25,000 cars and trucks thundering along it each day. I just can’t accept that local Member Dr Bruce Flegg is actually supporting the Kenmore Bypass…sorry, it is not a Bypass, it s a divide-through- the heart road.
Tomorrow morning Grant is being interviewed by Madonna King on ABC 612 at 9:00am. Dr Flegg is also being interviewed.
Please phone Madonna King with your point of view - it is important to be heard. The number to call is
1300 222 612.
Doug
Tonight Dr Flegg sent an email to around 3000 people on his database tell them he will be interviewed by Madonna King on ABC Radio (612)on Monday morning.
Grant from the No Kenmore Bypass will also take part in that interview. Please call in just before 9am to express your interest in making your point. Keep your call short and to the point and please feel free to challenge the points that Dr Flegg makes if you think they are not accurate or do not represent you as a member of the community he represents.
The number for the Madonna King show is 1300 222 612.
Please support Grant and the No Kenmore Bypass campaign

Congratulations to everyone involved in organising the Rally in the park. Good turn out and a lot of people from surrounding areas are only just beginning to realise the impact this will have on them! A big vote of support and thanks to Ronan Lee for being at the Rally and taking the time to walk along part of the proposed road. Also to the Greens politicians who have been happy to stand up and support our stand….a number of us will be voting for YOU next election.
Come on Minister Pitt and Premier Bligh - I invite you to attend the parkland between Marland and Twilight street and the Gem road; Figtree Pocket sections and see what our passionate fight is about. today I have counted at least ten different varieties of birds who live in this corridor - including Owls; Coucals; King Parrots etc. etc. Let’s try and protect our environment.
This road, if it goes ahead, will destroy a community.
Stephanie
I live at Anstead and have only just started to realise the full impact of this project, thanks to receiving a letterbox alert about a week ago.
Great site! However, I haven’t seen it mentioned here yet that the Main Roads deadline for submissions and comments has been extended to 16 June. This is what I was told by the one of the Reference Group reps who was at Bellbowrie shopping centre on Saturday last.
I hope I was given the right information.

Hi all
I cannot believe that in this day and age we as a collective human race can still think that it’s best to serve the selfish “I” attitude that is created by someone sitting in a car complaining about “their” trip to town.
Have we not been informed enough about the effects of our lifestyle on climate change and the health of this planet!!
I’m proud to be a volunteer for this argument as it means that I personally am doing more than just saving water, or using less electricity or saying no to plastic bags.
It means that I am part of something that may continue to educate the more selfish human out there that still thinks that he/she has a right to waste our limited natural resources.
Now hopping off my soap box! I wonder whether it would be a good idea to find out how many houses will be resumed for all of the planned roadworks across Brisbane. I noticed that Dr Flegg was unwilling to answer that question in relation to Kenmore the other day - it may well be a number that shocks a lot of people!!
Sarah
Michelle
A critical point that strengthens the State’s case is the route’s status as a preserved road corridor - this has been in the public domain for about 20-30 years. We can only hope that the huge cost to build the thing will render it unfeasible! Finally, WHY do we keep voting in bumbling BRUCE FLEGG - he is “the weakest link” and should be “voted off the island”
Michael
I would like to add my support to the voices above. The western suburbs should not be subjected to this “ad hoc” proposal that will not resolve the issue and will forever alter and undermine the quality of life for those unfortunate people that will be directly affected by this proposal. While I will not be directly affected I do live in Kenmore and can fully understand the environmental impact that the building of this road will have. Resolution to the problems confronting Moggill Rd and in particular through the Kenmore village would be considerably resolved by considering what can be done around the OLR and Kenmore State schools and also the entrance to the shopping centre. It is an interesting observation that the Kenmore Village congestion issue does not exist during school holidays. It does not take a Rhodes scholar to see the impact of the OLR and Kenmore state school arrival and departure fiasco to see how much impact this has on the congestion through this area.
Let them undertake this at their electoral peril!

DO YOU WANT MORE TRAFFIC THROUGH KENMORE
There is a proposal to make Kenmore the only road corridor for all traffic now and in the future accessing Brisbane from those 10 developing suburbs to the west of Kenmore.
We believe it is more intelligent to divert cars away from Kenmore by building a river crossing between Bellbowrie and Wacol. This would take cars away from Kenmore by providing residents an alternative way out of the Moggill area. This bridge was a condition of the original Bellbowrie development approval. It was to take traffic away from Kenmore. This stipulation was never kept and Kenmore has become chocked by traffic as a result. We believe that a river crossing close to where originally planned is an obvious and logical solution.
Another arterial road system through Kenmore will still not provide any long-term alternative relief for road traffic from Bellbowrie and Moggill.
2 arterial roads through Kenmore will make Kenmore less attractive.
6 to 8 arterial road lanes through Kenmore will increase air pollution over all Kenmore.
The South East Freeway which links all Australian coastal capitals is only 6 lanes.
Kenmore will become a less attractive unhealthy suburb in which to live in the coming years.
Do you believe that an alternative traffic route should be built to divert traffic from the 10 suburbs to the west away from Kenmore.
These suburbs will continue to grow and produce lots of traffic pollution for Kenmore.
Kenmore does not want or need any more traffic from outside the area. There is an alternative.
Say NO to more roads in Kenmore and yes to the bridge at Bellbowrie.
Lodge your strong objection to the Mains Roads proposal of ruining Kenmore with the so called ‘ Kenmore By-pass ’ that runs right through residential Kenmore.
Support the alternative of the bridge to divert traffic away from Kenmore.
Remember it’s not our traffic so why should Kenmore take the lot.
Margaret
As a resident of Moggill I fully support the building of a bridge from Bellbowrie to Wacol across the Brisbane River. It makes complete sense to give us access to Centenary area, Logan Motorway to Logan and Gold Coast area. More importantly access to rail for transport to the CBD because public transport is dreadful out here especially the buses that get stuck on Moggill road. Yes I am all for getting cars of the roads and people into public transport to decrease congestion on the roads. We can actually make a real difference by decreasing pollution and leaving the beautiful, green, leafy, peaceful western suburbs just as they should be. No need to waste millions on building a bypass at Kenmore just to encourage more cars onto the roads. Think of the advantages for the environment and the people in all these beautiful suburbs. With the money saved we could improve our health and education systems. NO KENMORE BYPASS YES BRIDGE AT BELLBOWRIE
Peter J
I say NO to the Kenmore Bypass.
It is undoubtedly the commencement of the bigger road transport picture for Brisbane’s southwest which will devastate the peaceful areas from Karalee to Kenmore. We are talking about building a 3.3km + 19km long, 55 odd meter or 4-6 lane wide, 80-90kph+ Arterial Road Highway THRU, and I repeat THRU these Suburbs, NOT around them, NOT under them, NOT over them but…..THRU!
These proposed Sub-Arterial Roads (lets face it, they are what they are) will not only have a detrimental affect on of the lifestyle of those people whose properties are immediate to these proposed roads, but a much wider proportion of the communities that it meanders its way thru. It could and probably will change the dynamics of these southwestern suburbs, their Businesses, their Vibe!.
Consider the amount of time we spend in our homes? Homes that are within sight and earshot of these proposed Arterial Roads, which are of a higher number than can be ascertained simply by a map. The Arterial Road Corridors (both the Kenmore Bypass and Moggill Sub Arterial)traverse Valleys which if they become Arterial Roads, will create an amphitheatre type effect to Homes above its Constructed Level, and there are a plenty of those throughout the hills! Homes where we spend Nights, Afternoons, Weekends….Consider the relentless NOISE RESONATING thru the Hills and Valleys from Karalle to Kenmore, from what will ultimately come from 24/7 usage by Heavy Road Transport for in excess of 75,000+ cars within the years, Consider 24/7 Headlights beaming into homes, Exhaust Brakes, Vibration, Accidents, Screeching Tyres, and most importantly Greater Carbon Immissions, Pollution, and Environmental Devastation.
Don’t be swayed by the Powers That Decide convince you that all of the communities’ environmental concerns will be met. This Government has been shown to be pretty ordinary at Planning at the best of times, and as a result they are Masters of Reaction, or in other works Spin. Like a good Magician, you should never take your eyes off them! Given their tranck record to date, I have my doubts that they could actually impelment the construction of these Arterial Roads, but I would not like to give them the chance either.
And just because you don’t live within a few hundered meters of these Arterial Road Corridors don’t think it will Not Affect You. Consider what you can hear on an evening now, do you think it would be better or worse when these Arterial Roads are built? Go and stand near the Gateway Arterials, South East Freeway, or Ipswich Motorway at any given time on any given day, and then come back and comment.
Do I sound like a ‘NIMBY’, you bet!, and my Backyard is not a small Lot next to one of the Arterial Road Corridors. Yes I live in the one of suburbs that will be affected, but I consider MY BACKYARD stretches from Karalee to Kenmore.
As a part of the wider community that will suffer from the construction of these Arterial Roads, we need to ensure that we use every Medium we can to drive our point of view home to the politicians tasked with the responsible role of making a decision that may devastate the livelihood of up to 9 odd suburbs, and thousands of Homes(This is where I really get concerned!!, but we put them there so we have to work with them).
The Kenmore Bypass is Stage 1 of 2 for another Western “Gateway” style Arterial. Do you honestly think that 24/7 Heavy Transport will travel the Ipswich Motorway when they could enter an Arterial Road at Tivoli and come out (when they have tunnelled the northern end of the Western Freeway which is now been given the green light) to the ICB??? or beyond. Let this sink in, 40 Tonne Double B’s, Interstate Semis going 24/7 THRU these Suburbs, along with cars, cars and more cars.
I am not up for counting trucks in my sleep, watching headlight shadows reflect across ceilings every night, holding my breath when I hear a squeal of brakes, breathing all sorts of concentrated pollution, and losing the natural wildlife we are fortunate enough to have nearby. If You Want That Scenario, sit on your hands and keep your mouth shut, because that is what you will get, but for any reason you have a passion for where you live and want to Determine its Future, SPEAK UP and be HEARD! Force this Government to do what we pay them for and get the absolute best long term solution for the future transport needs from Karalee to Kenmore.

What a great letter Peter!! I love your theory that all the western suburbs is your backyard. But I think we should expand it to the whole of Brisbane and create a SOB too – Save our Brisbane!!! I can’t believe what the government and council is proposing to do with the inner ring road. Creating a long-haul truck route through densely populated inner suburban areas seems the stuff of nightmares, something no green-thinking ruling power would do. I think I’ve said before, the cynical side of me wonders is it deliberate to increase tolls to help pay for all this new infrastructure.
Something I was wondering re the northern link is what happens to all the long-haul trucks and extra cars channelled in from the potential Moggill Pocket Arterial when they hit Kingsford Smith Drive at the end of the ICB. Is Kingsford Smith Drive going to be upgraded too?? I use that road a fair bit to the airport – always the picker-upper, never the traveller, smiles. But it’s a nightmare already without thousands more vehicles. So it’s not just Karalee to Kenmore residents who should be concerned but all those living along and using the whole “inner ring road” route – that is, from Karalee to the Gateway.

I have attached the path to Dr Flegg’s latest newsletter (I don’t know how to attach links sorry).Just paste the following address into your browser and return:
http://moggill.net/data/The Moggill Monitor - May 08.pdf
He talks about the misinformation and so on. He also clearly tells about the two different studies on for the WBTNI (Option 17 the Warrego extension to Western Freeway) and the Kenmore Bypass projects. If you go to his website http://www.moggill.net he has more information. I had a look and found as follows: The community consultation for the WBTNI closes on 31/5. If you haven’t put your comments in best do it ASAP. The Kenmore Bypass study consultation has been extended to 16/6. Check it out for yourselves and have a read.
Kathy
Thanks Robert - I get Mr Flegg’s newsletter but misunderstood when he said see “excerpt” from main roads flyer - thought there must be more to it but have just read the Westside News and the excerpt is pretty much it.
I still can’t believe he’s saying the $45 million of resumptions in the Moggill Road area would be a terrible thing but he’s not mentioning the cost of the resumptions for the bypass - doesn’t he realise what’s happening here???
Also read all the letters to the editor and amazing the number of people who still think the bypass will just affect a few Kenmore residents and tough luck to us sort of thing.

Why not make the Kenmore Bypass completely green, ie only buses, bikes and T3 as well as put a bus lane onto Moggill Rd Bellbowrie to Hale Street via the Western Freeway. That way there is actually a time advantage for bus commuters and cyclists don’t need to risk life and limb to save our planet as well as our quality of life.
We need a state government to step in and prove that they can make one hard decision for the future instead of the next term.
We don’t need more cars on the roads so close to the city. We need bikeways with FREE end of trip facilities in places other than George Street, Ms Bligh.
We don’t need more trucks on the roads, we need more efficent use of the rail infrastructure and the existing road networks.
We need public transport hubs that actually connect to each other and whose services are connected time wise. Only in Brisbane would you get a main bus transport station 1/2 kilometre from the rail hub. Think of the number of Brisbane suburbs that happens in? Indooroopilly and City to name two. What a disincentive to travel publicly?
We don’t need the Kenmore Bypass delivering its payload of harmful emissions, noise pollution and short sighted solutions to the communities of the Western suburbs.
We need true consultation with the stakeholders, we need true representation and most of all a government with sufficent vision to secure the environmental future for the whole of Brisbane.

The Kenmore Bypass seems like the most practical solution to assist in alleviating the traffic problems on Moggill Road, although I would like to stress the necessity for more greatly improved public transport in this area as with the rest of Brisbane. Having said this as a resident of Pullenvale for the last 23 years I would hate to see the construction of the Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial.
Joan
You will definitely see the Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial as some of our elected representatives have put in writing that they will not oppose its construction!!!!
Stephen
Goodluck with that one Kath Nicholls, just remember we have elected repredentatives that don’t represent their constituents out here in the Moggill electorate. What makes you think they are going to represent you when the time comes for your area to stop the Moggil Pocket Sub Arterial? Your elected representatives will say you knew about it and further to that you have no right to complain. I can’t imagine people in your Neighbourhood Watch area putting up with the threats the Kenmore people have been subjected too.
