6 Comments to “Talk to Bruce Flegg at Kenmore South 7:30AM 15 November”

Penny Behan

I just wanted to say I understand a lot of us are feeling a lot of emotion at the moment towards people who have not listened to us/ refused to meet with us/ misrepresented our position and inflamed disconnection in our community regarding the Kenmore Bypass.
I always try to control my emotions so that I can express my rational and reasonable views without being dismissed as irrational or unreasonable.
Any invitation to speak with anyone regarding the Kenmore Bypass is a positive and I personally encourage.
We are not a “protest group”. We are a group of rightly concerned, upset if there is cause to be, and rational people who have been promoting reasonable alternatives to the Kenmore Bypass for decades (in many cases).
Specifically regarding Dr Flegg’s invitation, while I was not invited, I will take the opportunity to attend and hope to have an opportunity to express my concerns.

Wow that’s a first!!

I wonder why he wants to talk to us now after all this time?

I am willing to go & speak with him but it’s probably a waste of time. The Bypass has caused so much anxiety & stress in our community & Dr. Flegg is the one who started it all.

Does he really think that there is anything he can do to help? Short of asking the government to stop the road after he was the person responsible for getting it to fly.

Maybe he has changed his mind on building the bridge from Moggill to Wacol for train access. That was paid for 40 years ago long before the preserved corridor was even thought of.

The preserved corridor could be a walk & cycleway only. Wow active transport, there’s a thought. Dr, Flegg likes bikes but I don’t know if he likes koalas.

Maybe he would support the building of overpasses & underpasses for pedestrians. Get rid of the lights & get traffic moving.

Dare to dream that the Kenmore roundabout can be fixed. It says so under the FOI he obtained for the upgrade of Moggill rd through Kenmore.

Ho hum perhaps Darryl Kerrigan was right after all, ‘TELL HE IS DREAMING’

It’s going to take a whole lot of real commitment to save the earth from it’s destructive ways. I don’t ever see that happening as long as the LNP and ALP stay in government. Not one single sustainable policy. Captain Bligh can’t even save the koalas if we keep voting these bumbling idiots in, so how are the rest of us going to fare.

Following Dr Flegg’s community meeting this morning at 7:30 am outside Kenmore South State School, he was absolutely clear on a number of points:-

1. He supports the Kenmore Bypass
2. He is against the Warrego extension of the bypass. “Would prefer that corridor be sold off”.
3. He will not support us in any shape or form in Parliament.
4. He is unable to provide detailed information because as the Local Member for the Opposition, he has no access to government information unless he pays for it and goes through F.O.I. and even when he does that – he has to wait several months to get the information requested.
5. He is always “busy” when it comes to attending either a walk through the corridor or attnedance at any of our community meetings. He has permanent bookings when they are on.
6. He represents the Moggill electorate and it would seem Kenmore is no longer included in that electorate.

In summary – the meeting with Dr Flegg was very disappointing in that he appeared to have no solutions or support for us and refused to represent us in Parliament.

Does anyone know if the Labor party has preselected anyone yet to run in Moggill at the next election? I would be very interested to hear what they have to say on this.

Re Dr. Flegg’s meeting he stated he wanted the corridor sold I presume so that the connection cannot be built. Selling puts this land in the hands of developers for more urbanization. If Dr. Flegg cares so much about the Moggill Pocket he should be assistiung to have it mapped as koala habitat and preserved for all time.

Unfortunately he so focused on building roads he can’t see he being party to the obliteration of the koala. It staggers me that his only yard stick for success is development if he were doing his job he should also be seen to be at least making an attempt to protect the biodiversity of the whole electorate. Not once yet have I seen, read or heard him going into bat for the environment. It’s bad enough he hasn’t addressed Kenmore residents concerns but it’s another thing to want to destroy beautiful habitat just to put more cars on the roads.
