I thought I would share my letter to the Minister of Main Roads. Get involved, make your thoughts known to the Minister! You can email your letter to mainroads@ministerial.qld.gov.au AND kenmorebypass@mainroads.qld.gov.au. Here is what I wrote:
The Hon. Warren Pitt MP, Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
PO Box 15031
City East QLD 4002
Dear Minister:
I would like to express my opposition to the proposed Moggill Pocket Sub-Arterial road (Stage One and Stage Two, aka “Kenmore Bypass”). This road will have a direct negative impact on my home and my community with noise, pollution and loss of green space. As a person who commutes into the CBD on weekdays, I do not believe that this road will improve travel times into the city. I strongly urge Main Roads and the State of Queensland focus all resources on long-term plans which will reduce traffic into the city, not merely add another road which will become another queue to the Toowong roundabout.
I must question the use of public money to fund a road which is of limited benefit to the Brisbane Metropolitan area. As you are well aware, the historical lack of planning for routes which circumvent our CBD have contributed to the congestion we have now. The Moggill Pocket Sub-Arterial road is an old solution that is not appropriate for the growth of our city and for commerce within the state.
I support solutions which will improve safety and congestion on existing roads as well as public transport solutions that will bring benefit to those that must commute to work within the CBD. This proposed road will add strain on the current western corridor through Toowong and Milton Road and make the “rat running” problem worse, not better.
Sincerely,
Katharine Ford
