| Save Our Suburbs - Kenmore to Karalee - Action to get a better alternative to the
Moggill Pocket Sub Arterial including the Kenmore Bypass |
| Here are things you can do right now to keep up the pressure. Contact political representatives and press, who remain sensitive to public opinion. |
| Suggested wording |
As you write, feel free to use this summary of the main argument. But put it into your own words!
"I would like to register my strong opposition to building the Moggill Pocket Sub-Arterial (Stage One and Two), including the so-called "Kenmore Bypass". Habitat, native wildlife, green space and people's homes will be destroyed. The leafy, natural character of the suburbs will be diminished, which QUT research shows is a significant reason people give of why they want to live in Kenmore. The values of all the properties that look at, listen to, and are in walking distance to the destroyed green spaces will drop greatly. Furthermore, I don't believe this will make the commute shorter-- the congestion will simply move somewhere else. There are many alternatives that will be cheaper, faster, far less disruptive, and more effective, and these must be considered. The site http://www.saveourkenmore.com has many good ideas in their presentation, and shows the strength of the community opposition. Lastly, I urge you to face the realities of the 21st century. Petrol prices will keep rising, cars emit CO2 and new roads remove green space we desperately need. It is madness to keep cutting new roads through fertile green spaces to put a band-aid on a problem that needs a real solution presented by visionary leadership. Please accept my strong opposition to the Moggill Pocket Sub-Arterial (Stage One and Two) and Kenmore Bypass. Please let me know what your position is on this issue by reply email or post."

| Ronan Lee MP for Indooroopilly has commenced an online petition against the Kenmore Bypass. |
|
GetUp are running a campaign at the moment encouraging members to email their local Federal MP’s informing them of their traffic woes and demanding they address the issue of public transport and tackle climate change. It costs nothing to join GetUp—it is a basically a lobby group which is not aligned to any party and its aim is to promote issues which might not otherwise get a decent hearing. |
Keep telling the media what you think |
It is important that we keep telling people that the Kenmore Bypass is bad for so many reasons. Any way you can get your message across in the media is important.
Other news stories are often related – fuel prices increasing, climate change, sustainable public transport solutions, loss of habitat for endangered species, knee jerk political decisions, lack of vision for the future, lack of whole of Government decisions and cooperation.
